The most frequently cited global statistics on human trafficking indicate that men and boys represent 40% of the total number of human trafficking victims; yet the identification and proper care of male survivors remain an enormous challenge to therapists and health care providers around the world. The trauma experienced within this patient population is chronic and complex. Many clinicians have limited experience addressing trauma and trauma-related symptoms in male trafficking survivors, mostly influenced by myths, masculinity scripts, shame, and non-disclosure. The presenter will share their published Trauma Treatment for Human Trafficking Victims phased approach tailored to working with male survivors. This training offers valuable insights and practical strategies for effectively supporting male survivors from clinical assessment to intervention. A focus on alternative therapeutic approaches tailored to their unique needs will be discussed. Participants will deepen their understanding of trauma, challenge common misconceptions, and explore inclusive, survivor-centered therapy practices.
